PIC Commemorates Its Centenary
The 2nd of May 2011 was a historic day for the Public Investment Corporation (PIC), as it reached its centenary that marked a momentous milestone in the history of the Corporation.
On 25 November 2011, the PIC proudly celebrated 100 years of its existence and of serving the people of South Africa and our clients through our philosophy of responsible investment.
Since our inception in 1911, the PIC has worked hard to establish itself as a sound public entity and an example for other public and private sector asset managers in the South African market. This event has provided us with an excellent opportunity to review our enormous progress in parallel to South Africa’s own exponential social and political development over the last 100 years.
It has also given us another reason to reiterate our commitment to exceeding our clients’ investment objectives, with the ultimate objective of effectively supporting South Africa’s economic development by prudently investing in projects that address the country’s environmental, social and governmental needs.
Uniquely, this centenary also coincides with the PIC successfully surpassing the R1 trillion-mark in terms of assets under our management. This achievement has further cemented our position as the largest asset manager in Africa and one of the best in the world.
We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to our clients, shareholders, partners and co-investors for their ongoing support as we celebrate this achievement, while at the same time aiming to exceed it too, in our near future.
